In its third year, the Bergrivier Bash Triathlon proved to be a triumphant celebration of athleticism, camaraderie, and the enduring beauty of the Berg River Dam. Once again, the weather played along, gracing participants with abundant sunshine on a day that promised both challenges and unforgettable moments.

Under the blazing sun, participants embraced the warmth, some opting to crack open cold beers early on, setting the tone for a day that blended competition with a laid-back, festive atmosphere. The Bergrivier Bash was not just a race; it was a celebration of the active lifestyle against the backdrop of a stunning landscape.

The transition zone, a bustling hub of activity, radiated energy. Physio SA added to the lively atmosphere, providing an extra gazebo and handing out goodies to all participants. The supportive ambiance of the transition zone set the stage for the challenges ahead, as athletes geared up for the swim, bike, and run segments.

A new contender emerged in the women’s solo category as Jana van der Merwe made her Bergrivier Bash debut, clinching victory with determination and skill. Her impressive performance added a fresh chapter to the event’s history, showcasing the growing talent and diversity of participants.

In the men’s solo category, Reinard Ganzevoort displayed unwavering consistency, securing a second consecutive victory. Tom Curd, a last-minute entrant using the race as training for a triathlon in New Zealand, showcased his resilience by finishing second on the podium. Jaco Luus, in his first triathlon, rounded off the podium with a stellar performance.

The overall best time once again belonged to a team consisting of the De Jager brothers and Johan, proving that teamwork and synchronized effort can conquer the challenging Bergrivier Bash course.

As the event came to an end, participants, friends, and organizers gathered for a braai and social. The smell of boere wors filled the air as laughter and stories of triumph echoed, solidifying the Bergrivier Bash as more than just a race—it was a cherished tradition, a reunion of friends, and a celebration of the indomitable spirit of the triathlon community.
